Summer Shakespearian Workshop

To round off the Summer Holiday we organised another Drama Workshop which ran for 6 days at the start of September. We were amazed by the level of interest as 26 children gave up the last week of their holiday to join us for a Shakespearian week. Our aim was to develop our own version of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. This time, boys outnumbered girls and much fun was had casting the parts of Bottom and the workmen as well as the fairy characters Oberon, Titania and Puck and the confused, love-struck mortals. The children not only gained a special insight into one of Shakespeare's plays but also were greatly amused by the comedy, the highlight being the final scene as the workmen performed a hilarious rendition of the play within the play, 'Pyramus and Thisbe'. We were fortunate to have a week of glorious weather so the children were able to paint some splendid scenery outdoors as well as making all the props. Everyone enjoyed dressing in Tudor style costume for the performance to parents at the end of the workshop and the subsequent performance to the rest of the school at the start of term. Well done everyone for such a splendid effort. We look forward to our next dramatic extravaganza!
